The Yurt

Last year we purchase our yurt from an individual who had erected it about 10 miles from our property. We decided to place the yurt on our property in So-Hi; a small community overlooking Golden Valley, Arizona. The yurt was manufactured by Pacific Yurts, which is located in Cottage Grove, OR. We not only have been extremely pleased with the quality and craftsmanship of our Pacific Yurt, but we are simply amazed with the outstanding customer service that the folks at Pacific Yurts have provided...They are incredible, and we Highly recommend them. Update! Update! Update!

As of November 19th, we have received our C.O. (certificate of occupancy), and have officially met all of the requirements set by Mohave County. We still have a great deal of work to do in order to consider the yurt "finished", but we are very happy to have met this tremendous goal. Check back for further updates and pictures of our project!

Now we just have to build the addition that will house the bathroom...

As well as the deck.

Some folks have asked about the connection betweent he yurt and the addition,

so I have included some detail shots.

Wayne Brashear has helped us with most of the detail work on the addition.

We would also like to thank Nabil Taha, Ralph Hall, and Dianna Fulleton from Precision Structural Engineering in Klamath Falls, OR. With their expertise and attention to detail, they provided us with the necessary drawings and engineering data that allowed us to obtain our building permit from Mohave County, AZ without a hitch! Although this may seem like a routine procedure, let us remind you that this is the first yurt in this county to be permitted. PSE is licensed in Arizona as well as a number of other states and supplied us with "wet-stamped" documentation. We strongly suggest that you visit their website at www.structure1.com to learn more about their alternative and green building projects, both commercial and residential. They can be reached by phone at
 (541) 850-6300.

A local business that we would like to show appreciation to is BCF; a local, licensed contractor here in Golden Valley, Arizona. Dave and his crew made sure that the platform, floor, and deck were built correctly before we erected the yurt. They also helped with the yurt raising and will be back when we are ready to have the rest of the addition framed. Dave can be reached at (928) 897-5897.

Much Thanks also go to our So-Hi neighbors; Gene, Delores, Nanette, Deb, Ali, Mikel, and Angel.
